The Water Project
Whenever you have helped the least of these my brothers, you have helped me."
-- Matthew 25:40
Millions of children do not have access to a basic education and are confined to a ongoing cycle of poverty. The JELA Foundation believes that education is a fundamental right of every child, thus resulting in its commitment to helping the "poorest of the poor". In a village north of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, JELA took the leadership to work with Lutheran World Service to construct a three-room primary school at a cost of approximately $20,000 USD, which is scheduled for completion in December 2007. Another new and exciting project in 2008 will be that of building a youth education center in the Diadema slum area of Sao Paulo. In addition to raising necessary funds for construction, JELA also sends volunteers to assist in the building. A classroom is more than a building: a classroom allows children to escape a life of poverty.
