Whenever you have helped the least of these my brothers, you have helped me."

Welcome to the website of the Japan Lutheran Evangelical Association -- JELA! I am JELA Director Hiromi Morikawa and I am pleased to tell you about our organization.
JELA was founded in 1909. As such, it is one of the oldest, non-profit foundations in Japan. Initially, JELA was established to support the ministry of missionaries sent from Lutheran churches in the United States. Through those missionaries, JELA helped promote evangelism, education and social welfare all across Japan. The fruits of JELA support can be seen in the numerous Lutheran churches, schools, day care centers, and welfare institutions in Japan today.
Beginning in the late 1990’s, JELA began projects beyond the borders of Japan, particularly to help disadvantaged children. JELA now sends needed aid in healthcare, hygiene, education and nutrition to impoverished regions of India, Brazil and Cambodia.
Through the establishment of our English website, we hope to spread word of JELA projects to the world at large. We invite you to see the work JELA is doing in Asia and South America. We also invite you to participate in our outreach projects to save the world’s children. Please help us help children.
