India has witnessed remarkable high-tech growth over the last decade, still only 61% of Indians can read and write, with illiteracy higher in rural areas. Food and water borne illnesses remain major health problems. Many rural communities lack proper medical care.
JELA is pleased to report that construction of the CRHP hospital in Jamkhed, India is well under way and an early April 2009 opening celebration is now being planned. The new 40-bed hospital will provide needed medical care to some of the poorest people living in western India. JELA continues to raise funds to support the building of the new hospital and to purchase essential medical equipment.
